On Friday 16.10.09, 12 Beavers and their 3 leaders all headed by train to Crawfordsburn. For many of the Beavers it was their first time away from home, they were packed with sleeping bags, plenty of goodies and not forgetting teddy bears. We arrived at Helen's Bay Train Station and walked to the Chalet at Crawfordsburn, up the big hill with little legs, we were lucky as all our luggage was sent on in front in a van and was kindly delivered by a parent of the Cubs. After a night hike and hot dog, it was time for bed. The Beavers were all excited about sleeping in Bunk Beds, but trying to get them to bed and to sleep proved to be exhausting for the Leaders. |
The next day after a long night it was back to Helen's Bay Station for the train to go to Cultra to visit the Folk and Transport Museum. The Beavers got to see soda bread being made and wheat being thrashed the old fashioned way. The weather was beautiful and we had our packed lunch beside the church in glorious sunshine. Then it was off to Helen's Bay for the train and back to the Chalet, where dinner was ready and then for a Super Hero show that the Beavers participated in with the Cubs. Then it was finally time for Mum and Dad to pick them up. It was a fantastic week end, no one was home sick, food and craic was brill, no accidents and the Beavers that went will all go again.
